approach
anticipation, arrival
looming,
overhead, down below
coming into view
imagination filling in the gaps
the expanse of possibility
increasingly tethered to actuality
how we approach. . . a task, a situation, a someone
familiar or foreign
or this,
the view from inside the fuselage
as clouds part
and ground comes into view
speed of flight palpable only against the shifting landscape
the trigonometry of landing
not quite there yet,
the body holds hope, or trepidation, or perhaps
nothing at all
the buildings get closer
forms emerge
maybe it is nighttime
the midwest at Halloween,
flashing purple and orange lights adorn houses
the candy not yet distributed,
costumes still being planned or donned,
a strangeness that tickles the brain
so this is what it looks like from above.
or here, in this cover photo,
the Glastonbury Tor,
that rod of power jutting out of the zodiac landscape from the highest hill,
flattened from another point of view,
emitting strength all the same,
the how am i going to climb this?
or land,
or complete the journey,
as if a journey wants true completion,
optimism saturates the incomplete,
a marble dropped now could roll down the grass any which way,
adventure on the descent into reality
a pleasure in exerting a specific path,
open to kinks in the plan,
as the actual asserts itself into the vastness,
an elevation of position shifting the view,
showing what else can become
than what is.

i’m almost done with the next beaded bound crown,
the planets are in,
declination shown in their placement toward one end of the expanse,
the centripetal force of knowing there’s only just over two signs to go,
accelerating my needle.
it’s not complete yet,
and, a shimmering sadness in the ouroborotic joining the beginning to the end,
zodiac complete,
chart set, ready for wear,
already planning iterations for the next one,
what I would change, what I would keep the same,
adjusting,
pivoting based on what i learned this time.
the dream of five new colors, of an array of new planets in new locations,
the glimmering sense of what it might look like,
before any of that is chosen.
it’s this part of the creative process, the finishing up and plotting on,
that’s where we are.
What are you working on? how much do you have left to go? Are you already making plans to approach the work again? in the same ways? or totally differently?
See you again on the 12th of May,

I’m making water color with ink and collage. Lately barely there, feminine figures are appearing. I love them. I’ve been working small, sometimes tiny pieces. Making prints of them…adding more ink… But I have visions of larger ones, so I got some larger handmade papers…still testing how the paint and ink adapt…my first larger piece is still sitting on the floor where I painted it. I’ve gotten as far as removing the tape, gathering the papers…but I haven’t figured out yet how to sit myself for the larger size, so…it’s waiting. Collage possibilities coming and going in my mind…a bit too much Matisse in my head…waiting for him to come into my hands. Yadda yadda. They all start with a circle or two or three left mostly unpainted, edging off uneven borders. I really dig them. I’ve definitely had the thought there’s no rush…like more inFORMation is coming…
Check out the Chandra symbol for the recent Aries new moon: Aries 28. An artist’s studio. Many unfinished paintings everywhere. Transforming/Receptive. I hardly ever look at the Chandra symbols, but this one describes my art room. I love having unfinished pieces…just water color splashes on various types of paper…and I can pick one up anytime and just play with it.
