A year ago, I got curious.
Traditional (aka craft) astrology relays that a factor called “bounds” (or terms or confines or horia…) determines the material manifestation of a thing.
I look to this factor when I consult people (to answer precisely how this-thing-you-just-asked-about is really going to show up for you), but I had never tried to work with bounds on purpose, as in,
. . . today, I am going to make something creative under this influence . . .
So I convened a group over at CAELi, and called it Leaps + Bounds, and before I knew what was going to happen, we were meeting every other week, and for the past year, we have made (and failed to make) all kinds of art.
Our conversations meandered, whirled, spiraled, and exploded… landing us everywhere from inside geological time, out at the edges of the known universe, and inside the bowels of spherical trigonometry. It’s the best advanced astrology class I have ever led, and we are still going, full steam ahead.
. . . each time the Sun would cross into a new (tropical) bound, I would share a prompt, and we’d see what would happen, and whether what we tried to make actually made it onto the planet. This year, we’ll be working with the sidereal and tropical zodiacs, and I am experimenting with making the bound prompts public.
I have no idea where this will lead, but if you take a leap with me (hi, Jean Gebser!), I know you will get something out of this.
so when you follow this substack, which I’m calling The Bound Report, you’re getting not quite horoscopes, not quite astro lessons, maybe a partly bossy art teacher (I literally dressed up in a black and white striped mumu I, got in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia and paired it with my silver Alexander McQueen flats with sequin skulls on the tips because we have to start this off in style, right!?), and a constantly curious companion on your walk through the year.
heaps of peeps are about to start decan walks, and so I challenge you to a round of bounds.
Every time the Sun shifts bounds, I will post something aligned with the shift. Short or long form, depending, and always with the intent to get you into the mindset for how things are going to manifest in that time window. You’ll start to see the world around you shift in deep ways, you’ll start to listen to the online scopes with more scrutiny because to omit bounds from a forecast is to leave out a massive factor in the equation.
The missives will stay mostly poetic, and if you want to get your hands dirty in the astrology, join the Leaps + Bounds group, you’re always welcome to dip in. Our biweekly conversations continuously blow me away and challenge my astrology to get better and better.
So, for this first Bound Report, the Sun’s entrance into Aries, and thus the bound of Jupiter for the next forseeable days, I have a simple prompt.
Start before you’re ready.
Expand your sense of what’s materially possible.
Stretch, leap, extend, deepen.
And just to prove that I am walking my talk, I’m even starting this project before getting everything tip-top and polished. One thing I learned from the past year’s Leaps+Bounds experiment with bound-work is how vital iteration is.
So I am starting this substack because NOW is the time, and I am not “ready” and here we go.
